Commercial Vehicle Insurance
Being aware of what type of insurance a business needs is important, and deciding whether your business even requires a commercial auto policy can be challenging. We can help you assess your needs and evaluate your options.
What is Commercial Auto Insurance?
Vehicles used in conducting business, as opposed to those strictly for personal use, are typically insured under a commercial auto insurance policy, which protects the assets of a company from claims. A commercial auto insurance policy has different coverages that are designed to address particular business needs.

Non-Emergency Medical Transport Insurance
We’re revolutionizing the way you purchase Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) insurance.
Commercial Hirecar Insurance Company (CHIC) provides commercial auto insurance to NEMT operators with commercially registered vehicles. This coverage protects the NEMT operator in the event of a motor vehicle accident and ensures there are no coverage gaps.
Registering the vehicle commercially and insuring with CHIC provides primary liability and personal injury protection for the NEMT operator.
Under a personal auto policy there is no coverage for vehicles which are used for-hire commercial purposes and this may result in denial of claim or cancellation of coverage. Using a personal auto policy for NEMT operations and not disclosing commercial use of your vehicle leaves you vulnerable to lawsuits and potential loss of assets. Our policy provides coverage during commercial purposes and leaves no gaps in coverage.

Florida Workers' Comp Insurance
Workers' compensation insurance covers the cost of work-related injuries and illnesses. In Florida, businesses with four or more employees must carry workers' comp. Construction businesses must have coverage for every employee.
Who needs workers’ comp insurance in Florida?
Florida law states that workers’ compensation insurance is required when a business has four or more employees, either full-time or part-time.
There are special considerations for some employees, including corporate officers:
-
Sole proprietors and partners are automatically excluded from workers’ comp law, but they can purchase coverage by filing for election of coverage.
-
Construction businesses are required to carry workers’ compensation insurance for every employee, including yourself if you are the only employee. They can exempt up to three corporate officers if each can demonstrate ownership of at least 10% of the company. In addition, contractors are responsible for ensuring that their subcontractor provides coverage for their workers.
-
Agricultural businesses with six or more regular employees and/or 12 or more seasonal employees that work for more than 30 days are required to provide coverage.
So, do you need workers’ comp for part-time employees?
Unless they fall into one of the three exemptions above, the answer is yes. Independent contractors are not considered employees, and an employer is not required to carry workers’ compensation insurance for those individuals unless they are in the construction industry.
